In the sea

Okinawa public beach has a caution board to show the dangerous animals on the beach. Check the explanation before enter the water.

Sea Snakes

The okinawa sea snakes are about 1m long with striped pattern.

If bitten, suck out the venom and immediately transport the victim to the hospital.

Sea Snakes are not actively attack human, so if you see it, slowly go backward.

Box Jelly fish

It has a box-shaped bell about 10 cm in diameter and four arms with tentacles on each arm.

Do not rub the sting. Rinse the affected area with vinegar to remove tentacles, cold pack or soak in cold water. See doctor immediately in case of serious condition.

it is about 40 cm long and looks like a rock with brown algae.

If stung, soak in about 40-45 degree Celsius (104 to 113 Fahrenheit)

It can be found on the coral rock area where the people walk on the rocks at the time of low tide.

So it is good to wear marine shoes or sneaker when you stroll on the coral rocks instead of sandals.

Long-Spined Sea-Urchin

The long-spined sea-urchin has sharp spines of about 20 cm long.

If stung, soak in about 40-45 degree Celsius (104 to 113 Fahrenheit).

Its Japanese name Gangaze is a popular sea-urchin of Okinawa.

It good to wear marine shoes for snorkeling.

Lionfish

The Lionfish isa about 25-35cm long and with long petal-like poisonous pectoral fins.

If stung, soak in about 40-45 degree Celsius (104 to 113 Fahrenheit)

The Lionfish doesn't move actively floattting in the sea near the coralal rocks.
So if you find the fish, take distance from it.

Striped Eel Catfish

Striped Eel Catfish has eight whiskers around the mouth.

If stung, soak the wound in warm water of 40-45 degree Celsius (104 to 113 Fahrenheit)

Blue-Ringed Octopus

This octopus have small blue-spotted.

If bitten, squeeze out the venom and transport the victim to the hospital.

It is dangerous to suck out the venom with mouth.

Shellfish with about 5-10 cm cone-shaped shell.

If stung, suck out the venom and immediately transport the victim to the hospital.

Coral

Coral reef is beautiful but if it touches your skin, the blessed part can be recovered for caring long time.
So important when you enter the coral reef area, wear rubbered groves and marine shoes. It helps to touch the coral when necessary, without blessing.
The best solution is to wear a wetsuit. For light snorkeling, wear the rush guard or T shut.

On the beach

Coral, Shells

The white corals, Shells on the beach are SHIGAI, so you can touch it.
However for your foot, it can be blessed.

It is highly recommended to bring a marine shoes for coral sand shell area in Okinawa. A sandal can not protect whole your food (PIED).

In the field

Habu snake

The habu snake is living in the Okinawa islands. The snake has poison, when the snake mold the human, it might be caused death.
So when you find sneak, leave from the it, don’t try to catch or attack.
If the snake mold you unfortunately, try to remove the DAEKI of snake, and go to Hospital. Call 119 to request an ambulance car.
